Ed Herold: My Career as a Professor of Human Sexuality Presentation: Ed will speak about his many accomplishments in this very fascinating field. Bio: Ed received his BA and MA at The university of Manitoba and his PhD in Sociology at Iowa State University He broke the record in his department for receiving his PhD in less time than anyone else--two years. In 1970 Ed was hired to join the Sociology Dept. at the U o Guelph. The following year he moved to the Department of Family Studies He was at the U of G for 32 years. In 1971 he introduced a course in Human Sexuality. This was one of the first courses in Human Sexuality to be taught at any university in Canada. In 1976 he received a 3 year fellowship from the Canadian Government.This allowed him to introduce the only Conference on Human Sexuality In Canada. Ed was chair of this Conference for 15 years. The Conference continued for 42 years. His research leaves were spent at different Universities in Hawaii and Australia. Ed has 80 articles and two books published. He has presented talks in several differentcountries. Because of his many research publications, Ed was named a Fellow of the Society for the Scientific Study of Human Sexuality. 10am. Ed Mizzi: Astronomy: Way Out There Presentation: Astronomy is the study of everything in the universe beyond Earth's atmosphere and it helps us understand our place in the cosmos. Ed will attempt to describe some of the many facets of this fascinating and oldest of the sciences. He will discuss some of the most intriguing discoveries and celestial bodies in our Solar System and beyond. Bio: "Ed Mizzi is an amateur astronomer with the Royal Canadian Astronomical Society of Canada and his main focus is to help educate members of the public about the oldest of sciences and the wonders of the universe. Due to his volunteer work, Ed was honoured earlier this year, by the International Astronomical Union, based in Paris, France, with a Minor Planet being named after him, Ed served in several capacities on the Board of Directors of the Hamilton Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC), and he is a Past President. He also received a Service Medal from the RASC, in 2019" 10am. To be followed by Live Questions. |
