Presidents Message
Dear RCMC members, Our ‘Fabulous’ Past President, Warren Gregg, had his hand on the pulse of the membership and was able to report on our members, at the beginning of the bi-weekly membership meetings. I would like to continue this tradition, but alas, I am not, as-of-yet, as well connected to the membership as is Warren! If the members would share information such as member illnesses, passing, birthdays, anniversaries, birth of children/grandchildren, please pass it along to me ([email protected]) or the Communications committee ([email protected]).so that I can share it with fellow RCMC members I think that this will make a more personal, informed, and interactive Club. Thank you for your help. Richard Rivkin (RCMC President 2026-2027) |

Plant Selection that's for the Birds Presented by: Kevin Kavanagh
Gardeners are often familiar with the benefits provided by the plants they grow to butterflies, bees and other insect pollinators. Birds also add attractive elements of colour, movement and sound to the garden environment yet when it comes to attracting birds, much of the effort goes into the simple placement of feeders around the home. Selecting plants and designing gardens with birds in mind can add interesting new elements to the home landscape and often contribute in meaningful ways to bird conservation. This presentation will introduce simple design principles that can enhance the attractiveness of the garden landscape for birds in all seasons. Important bird friendly features such as companion plantings that help provide shelter from predators and inclement weather, incorporation of small water features, use of eco-regionally appropriate native plant species for enhancing food variety through the seasons and creation of vertical structure in the garden will be some of the topics discussed. |
