Michael Grand: Role of Grandparenting and Grandchildren Development Presentation: Look into any Developmental Psychology textbook and you will rarely find a word on the role of grandparents in their grandchildren’s psychosocial development, yet hidden in the literature are several studies detailing their influence. In this talk, we will consider the ways grandparents shape the direction of their grandchildren’s development. We will also consider an emerging source of conflict between grandparents and their own children about parenting style. Bio: Michael Grand holds the rank of Professor Emeritus in the Graduate Training Program in Clinical Psychology, University of Guelph. He has published widely in all aspects of the psychology of adoption and received numerous awards for his work including the David Kirk Award of the Adoption Council of Canada for outstanding contributions to research in adoption, and Adoption Activist Awards from the North American Council on Adoptable Children and the Adoption Council of Ontario. As a co-founder of the Coalition for Open Adoption Records, he spearheaded the push to open adoption records across Canada. From 2015-2021, he served on the Council of the College of Psychologists of Ontario as an academic member. During the last two years of his term, Michael was the President of the College. Currently, he has a psychotherapy practice and supervises senior PhD students in psychotherapy at the University of Waterloo. 10am. To be followed by Live Questions. |
