December 2025 - Live Meetings

December 4th.
Mark Berardine: Homelessness in Guelph

Presentation:

Downtown Guelph Homeless, Hunger and Hope
Since 2014 the Wellington Catholic Teachers with their friends at GW Coalition of Social Justice and the Guelph District Labour Council have journeyed together in assisting several organizations that are advocating and trying to help the Downtown Community. This talk will give a brief recap of our journey with several organizations working to provide relief for those living on the edges of poverty. We will trace some history of 40 Baker Street, Sister Christine's The Drop In Centre, The Bench, The Royal City Mission and Your Friends of Downtown Guelph. We will focus on our interaction while describing what these organizations did or are doing.

'Better small than not at all' Ed Pickersgill inspirational quote.

Bio:

Mark Berardine is the retired Past President of the Wellington Catholic Teachers Association, Executive Member of GWCSJ and Treasurer for the GDLC. Though 'retired' Mark still works as a Teacher for the WCDSB. Mark along with his wife Maria chair the Social Justice Committee which works with all three organizations to provide meals and other assistance for our Downtown Guelph Community. In 2025 the committee estimates that it will have provided for over 5,000 meals.
