November 2024 - Live Meetings

November 7th. 2024
Tim Speed: The Battle of Britain

Presentation:

Alone against the might of Nazi Germany, and outnumbered 4 to 1 against an experienced and well equipped foe, why and how did the RAF prevail in the summer of 1940?

Bio:

Tim comes by his interest in aviation honestly despite the fact that he is not a pilot and has no military experience. His father was a Navigator in WWII flying Special Operations in a Handley - Page Halifax. Tim first became involved with aviation as an Air Scout while still wearing short pants! He obtained a Business Degree in the United Kingdom and joined British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) after graduating from University. He served as a Station Operations Officer in Dubai, Tokyo and Beirut. He returned to the UK and worked in BOAC's Air Cargo Division before becoming General Manager of an All-Cargo Airline based at East Midlands Airport. Later Tim began working for an air freight forwarder. He immigrated to Canada, with his family in 1980. Before retiring he was the CEO of a large air freight and logistics company. He has been a volunteer Tour Guide, Speaker and Educator at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum since retiring in late 2010.

Ian Evans: My Life as a Lunatic

Presentation:

Ian has embraced adventure all his life - from scaling the shed roof at aged 3 to skiing to the South Pole at aged 58. He has climbed 5 of the 7 Summits. cycled 5,000 KMS unsupported across Australia (twice) around the coastline of Iceland, to the Arctic Ocean, 8,000 kms across Canada and run 10 marathons. Ian will recount some of his “Out There” experiences, fun and lessons learned from expeditions around the globe.

Bio:

Ian has embraced adventure all his life - from scaling the shed roof at aged 3 to skiing to the South Pole at aged 58. He has also climbed 5 of the "7 Summits" ", cycled 5,000 KMS solo & unsupported across Australia (twice) around the coastline of Iceland and to the Arctic Ocean and run 10 marathons.

But the thing about Ian is that he is an ordinary guy, from a rural background in England, who has decided to push himself to achieve extraordinary things at the very edge of his own comfort zone. He is not an explorer, world record holder or super-fit world-class endurance athlete, but is a Chartered Accountant who has led in many ways a regular life. Ian has worked for 25 years in Africa and Canada operating his own consulting practice specializing in the restructuring and refinancing of transportation companies.

Ian's latest expedition in 2021was to cycle 8,000 km across Canada from Prince Rupert in B.C. To Cape Spear Newfoundland while raising $10,000.00 for the Community Foundations of Canada.
