March 16th.- Matthew Curtis: Laparoscopic Surgery
President John Sneyd opened the meeting at 9:55 am with 42 members in attendance and he welcomed today’s guest presenter, Matthew Curtis, as well as today’s guests Larry Kich and Mike Finnoro. He then thanked Ritchie Zelk for arranging a very interesting tour of the Spring Mill Distillery last Saturday.
David Moller, Treasurer, spoke about the dues for the coming fiscal year being due as of April 1st and the level has increased by a conservative five dollars to a total of $90 for the year. Payment can be made by paying by cheque made out to Royal City Men’s Club at a meeting or mailing to Kerry Gennings, Secretary, at the Club’s mailing address (180 Inkerman St., Guelph, N1H 3E1). Alternatively, payment can be made by e-transfer to royalcitymensclub@gmail.com . Additional donations to help out the Club are also welcome however, the Club can not issue any taxable receipts.
Julian Sale, Chair of the Nominations Committee informed the membership of the upcoming Annual General Meeting and Anniversary meeting on June 8th, 2023. A call for nominations to the Board of Directors for the next year will be made at the next meeting. There is a good need to get some new members on the Board to relieve some of the long-term members who would like to step down.

- A musical outing at Drayton Hamilton Family Theatre to see Beautiful: The Carole King Story is scheduled for May 20th;
- a possible river cruise through Grand River Boat Tours is in the planning stage;
- a tour of the Hamilton War Plane Museum is also in the planning stage;
- further activities are being considered.
Julian Sale reminded members to use the business cards set out on the seats to use to attract other potential members to join the Club.

Bio
Matthew Curtis is a born and raised local Guelph-ite. He attended the University of Guelph and studied Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business. His passions for the systems and tools that surgeons use to help increase the quality of care for individuals lead him to pursue a career in MedTech. Matthew has experience launching orthopedic navigation systems in international markets and working with Canadian physicians to adopt robotic assisted surgery.
Presentation
He shared the past, present, and future of surgical robotics and how the growing access to robotic assisted surgery in Canada will help reduce the length of stay in hospitals and improve the episode of care.
