Jan.-Feb. - Virtual MeetingsJan 6th. - Zoom Virtual Meeting - Herb Kunze:
Ontario University Funding (& Finances) Presentation: It is likely uncontroversial to say that public universities serve society through their teaching and research mission. In this presentation, we will discuss how universities fund their operations in pursuit of this mission. We will see that there are numerous "revenue streams," and we will consider their stability and predictability. The funding (or revenue) is inadequate if it cannot consistently cover expenses, so we also need to discuss the other half of the ledger, leading to a discussion of university finances. I may talk broadly about the Ontario university sector or typical universities at times, but I intend for the talk to also be somewhat of a case study of the University of Guelph. Bio: Herb Kunze is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Guelph. He is currently the Vice-President of the University of Guelph Faculty Association (UGFA) and will become the UGFA President in 2022. He has chaired the UGFA Financial Advisory Committee since 2012 and has been a member of the OCUFA Finance Committee for several years. Since 2017, he has been deeply involved in the development of the University Pension Plan (UPP), which saw the University of Guelph, Queen's University, and the University of Toronto convert their combined five pension plans into a single jointly-sponsored pension plan on July 1, 2021. Herb presently holds an appointment as one of the six employee sponsor seat holders of the UPP. 10am. To be followed by Live Questions Jan. 20th. - ZOOM VIRTUAL MEETING - Jason Castellan:
