Past-President Julian Sale advised that he attended Lloyd Taylor’s celebration of life and how much he learned about Lloyd’s accomplishments in life. It reminded him of how important it is to get to know our members and he and President John encouraged attendance at our pre-meeting social time, coffee Thursdays and our social events.
President John gave us the word for the day: bloviator (look it up).
Activities Chair Ken Marchant called for sign up for Night at the Races in Elora on Friday, September 2, commencing at 6:00 pm. Spouses, partners, significant others invited. Capacity limited to first 40. Price at door: $30/person. If you can drive a member please let Ken or Warren Gregg know.
David Moller introduced the guest speaker and member, Andy Curtis. Andy shared his 50s, 60s and 70s record collection with us and spoke to us about how the length of recordings expanded over time, album covers and inserts evolved into art, vinyl replaced shellac, cell phones and Bluetooth replaced large consoles, the centre hole in 45s was made bigger in the North American market to distinguish them from the British 45s, the language on comedy albums today uses language that was previously banned and he answered the age old question: what do you call the plastic insert in the centre of a 45 record? (Look it up).
President John thanked our speaker for “bringing us back to our youth” and adjourned the meeting at 11 am.
Recording Secretary: Gordon Framst
