Laura Sullivan: Seniors at Risk

Presentation:

Laura's presentation will focus on the type of risks she encounters, how risk is analyzed as well as possible responses. She will also speak to the importance of having Power of Attorney documents as a means to reduce vulnerability.

Bio:
Laura has been working with the Canadian Mental Health Association since 2001 after graduating with a MSc. in Family Relations and Human Development from the University of Guelph. She has worked with the Here 24/7 team responding to crisis calls in the community, but she has worked primarily with the Specialized Geriatric Services Team where she has had the role of Seniors at Risk Clinical Consultant for several years. In her role, Laura responds to various calls from police, hospitals, community service providers and concerned citizens who call to express concern about a vulnerable senior. She works as an advocate for the older adult to provide education to their support team and to help balance risk with the wishes of the individual. She collaborates with community partners to help formulate a response to issues of abuse and neglect.
