Meeting Minutes - Sarah Bowers-Peter: Crime Stoppers-Human Trafficking - Aug. 8th. 2019
Today’s meeting took place in Trinity Hall and was opened by President Julian Sale at 9:57 am with 29 members in attendance. There were no guests at today’s meeting. Julian asked for a show of hands of those who had handed out our new RCMC card to prospective members and about 6 members had already done so. Julian encouraged others to do so too. Announcements:
Julian once again reminded members that the club continues to need volunteers for the Speakers Committee, House Committee to handle Video setup and Audio setup, and Activities and Events Committee. There was no member news however Gary Repta suggested that we have a periodic report on some of the original members of the club. It was agreed that would be a good idea that that Del would look into it (perhaps with the help of Gary). Activities – Ken Marchant

Same locations – Boathouse and Airport. There is a dedicated group of about 4 people who continue to go the airport (breakfast is still great value there).
Julian brought up the topic of linguistics by referring to an article in The Guardian UK newspaper titled “Trump has turned words into weapons. Julian also pointed out that there can be a humorous side to linguistics and shared a short story illustrating that. David Moller introduced today’s presenter - Sarah Bowers-Peter - Crime Stoppers Guelph/Wellington: Human Trafficking Sarah Bowers-Peter is the Program Coordinator of Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington. She is an employee of Wellington County OPP and has held this role since 2014. During this time, the program has received 25 provincial and international awards for outstanding work, including the Marla Moon Memorial Award of Excellence four years in a row. In 2019, Sarah was presented the “Coordinator Achievement Award” at the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers annual conference for her work with not just the Guelph Wellington program, but her assistance to programs across Canada and the United States. We will notify members when they are available. Sarah answered a number of questions and agreed to stay on to answer those we did not have time to cover. John Sneyd thanked Sarah for her very informative talk and the club gave her a Royal RCMC round of applause. Julian reminded members of the meeting in 2 weeks Thursday August 22nd. Ron Heipel– Getting to Know Hospice Wellington. Hospice Wellington to a lot of community work so members will find if most interesting. Julian announced that he will be away for the next 2 meetings. Frank Webster will be chairing the 22 Aug meeting and Marty Alderwick will chair the 5 Sept meeting the latter featuring Brian Carwana who will give a broad overview of World Religions. Brian is an excellent speaker.
