Meeting Minutes - Bill Rowley: Electric Vehicles-The Time is Now - July 25th. 2019
Today’s meeting took place in the Sanctuary and was opened by President Julian Sale at 9:55 am with 46 members in attendance. Julian welcomed three guests: Harley Knighton, Ralph Sneyd and Bob Dennee Julian also indicated that he has produced business cards for members to pick up from the welcome table. These are for members to pass out to prospective members to increase interest in the Club.
Announcements Julian announced that volunteers are needed to help fill Club committees such as the Speakers’ Committee, the Activities Committee, and House Committee for audio and visual setup.
Activities – Ken Marchant - Members should check the website to make sure that their contact information is correct and up to date; - Event to the Hamilton Family Theatre to see “12 Angry Men” on August 13th – the tickets are now available for members to pick up and if you haven’t received yours contact Martin Alderwick or Ken; - On September 23rd the night at the racetrack still has four spaces available. See Ray Biffis if you want a reservation; - Christmas dinner and Valentine’s Day events are still in the planning stage. The Activities Committee is open to suggestions for a place to hold the Valentine’s Day dinner; - Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sleeman Centre is planned to be followed by lunch at Diana’s Restaurant. Sign up sheets will be put out in the near future. - We are looking for degree of interest in going to the Mountsberg Raptors Centre as a possible event: (a half dozen members showed interest). This will be considered for a later event; - Ken inquired as to how many people would be interested in an Arboretum hike. He takes people through on a regular basis. He will plan this for the early fall. - The tour of the Spring Mill Distillery was quite interesting and informative. Thanks to Ritchie for setting this up.
Coffee – Andy Curtis - Next Thurs., August 1st, @ 10:00 am coffee will be at the Boathouse and the alternative meeting location is the Airpark Café.
John Sneyd introduced today’s presenter, Bill Rowley (Bill is a Club member).
Bill Rowley – Electric Vehicles: The Time is Now Bio: Bill joined Ford of Canada in 1965 after working for 4 years as a Ford Dealer Mechanic.. He spent all 35 years with Ford in the Technical Training Department and spent 30 of those years with Ford as Canada’s National Training Manager. His position involved continuous updating of some 3000 Ford of Canada Dealer Mechanics. Bill had a staff of 15 full time Instructors who worked out of 11 Ford Technical Training schools across Canada. As National Training Manager Bill also assisted the Canadian Government with The Red Seal Program. When a mechanic writes his/her Provincial Mechanics Certificate Exam and achieves better that 80% on the exam they are awarded the Red Seal. The Red Seal allows that person to work as a mechanic in all 10 provinces. Less than 80% are eligible to work in the certified province.
Topic: How a Car is born …and Is there a real need for electric and driverless vehicles? Bill attempts to keep up to date with industry trends. And will be talking today about 2020 Electrical Vehicles and 2022 AV’s.
Presentation: Bill Rowley (Secretaries Note: Bill provided many complete and very well prepared and informative slides for his presentation. These can be found on the Club website under “More” then “Speaker’s Notes” for this date.)
Bill concluded his presentation with this comment: “The Chinese Government has declared that China will lead the world by 2025 in Electric Vehicles, 5G cellular systems and Autonomous vehicles. To me that is quite a challenge for the remainder of the world.”
John Sneyd thanked Bill for his presentation and asked that he agree to presenting again on a future date to add to this presentation.
