Sarah Bowers-Peter - Crime Stoppers Guelph/Wellington: Human Trafficking Presentation: Most people are oblivious to the crime of Human Trafficking/Sex Trafficking and certainly unaware that it happens in the City of Guelph and County of Wellington. While it is grossly underreported, the stats are still staggering. Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington has taken on Human Trafficking/Sex Trafficking awareness to prevent youth from becoming victims and to help adults identify the signs. We will discuss the early stages of grooming through to signs of youths being trafficked. Yes, it is an uncomfortable topic, but it's worse for the victims and their families, who never knew Human Trafficking was coming for them. With an understanding of this crime and by using Crime Stoppers, the public can help put an end this horrific crime. Bio: Sarah Bowers-Peter is the Program Coordinator of Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington. She is an employee of Wellington County OPP and has held this role since 2014. In 2019, Sarah was presented the “Coordinator Achievement Award” at the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers annual conference for her work with not just the Guelph Wellington program, but her assistance to programs across Canada and the United States. 9:30 Refreshments
