Thurs. March 8th. - Ray Biffis - "What you need to know about electricity in your home"
Ray is going to share with us further insights into electricity in your home to help you keep you, your family safe, and your home safe. Some things you can do yourself and some things you should never do yourself. Along the way, Ray always has some interesting, and often humourous, anecdotes to share. Bio Club member Ray Biffis has a along and interesting career in electrical contracting. He has seen many changes in regulations over the years. He has also seen how DIY electrical repairs can put your family and home at risk.
Thurs. March 22nd. - Dan Kraus - "Room for Optimism as Canada's Endangered Species List Grows"
Dan will be sharing his extensive experience as a conservation biologist, especially as it pertains to Canadian biodiversity. Although Canada's endagered species list is growing, Dan argues that there is some room for optimism. This should be a very interesting lecture.
Dan is the National conservation biologist with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). He has worked on projects that range from conservation planning to habitat management to climate change adaptation.
Dan applies his knowledge and passion of nature to help identify priority areas and increase awareness about Canada’s biodiversity. He is an expert on Canadian species and landscape ecology, and is a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission and the Committee on Species at Risk in Ontario. He has authored several reports and papers on a variety of topics including freshwater conservation, natural capital, biodiversity indictors and conservation planning. Dan’s blogs and editorials have appeared in media across Canada. Prior to NCC, Dan was an ecologist with Parks Canada and an environmental consultant.
