Thurs. August 23rd. - Steve Howard "Habitat for Humanity"
Presentation: At Habitat for Humanity, we know that even in its most basic form, the term poverty extends beyond its definition.Poverty is a state of being, and unfortunately, it’s a reality for 1 in 7 Canadians.Canada’s affordable housing situation is worsening, impacting the 1.6 million Canadian families in need of safe, decent, affordable shelter. As such, we’ve made the decision to amp up our efforts. Expanding on our Mission tobuild affordable housing and promote homeownership as a means to break the cycle of poverty, we are developing whole and integrated communities – bright, stable and supportive communities comprised of seniors, special needs individuals, and single and dual parent families. A unique social enterprise, Habitat combines fundraising activities and social financing models together with its ReStore network to create these communities. We are supported by volunteers locally and internationally as the world’s largest home builder. Steve Howard is the CEO of Habitat for Humanity WDG. Under his leadership, the affiliate is now breaking ground on a multi-unit project in Guelph, and has just entered into an agreement with the City of Guelph on a second large scale project on the former IMICO property. Plans are also currently being finalized for a multi-unit building project in Orangeville.

Early on he caught “Habitatis” and accepted the Board’s invitation to lead the affiliate in its expansion of build activity.
